I was so excited as we approached Citta della Domenica! Mike less so! I can remember really enjoying the little train and sharing the girl's excitement on exploring the different themed areas all those years ago. Mike says he spent the days dreaming of the next bottle of water!
Citta della Domenica for those who are not familiar is a huge wooded complex set on top of a hill just outside Perugia. It was given to the people of Perugia by the Spagnoli family, for their enjoyment on a Sunday - hence the name - but it is open all week. It consists of a zoo, restaurant and bars, huge indoor play areas - the little electric cars were great! An extremely large outdoor themed park with a little train which takes you to the different areas and lovely walks and picnic areas. It WAS hot! We used to be there with our daughters in the heat of the afternoon and, in those days, there was no shade and we often used to walk around rather than wait for the train so it was quite exhausting.
Last night Ilana met us with Pedro perched on the car. She works here a couple of days a week welcoming the families and taking photos of them with Pedro. He never flies away and obeys every instruction - incredible!
It was so strange seeing the restaurant again, like losing 43 years. I don't think we ever ate their as a family - but I came with my mother and father the first time we came to Italy in 1966. It still looks the same!
I was not really looking forward to the pizzas because I generally do not like Italian pizzas but, boy, did I change my mind! And just look at the size! Brought half of it home for another meal! And they only cost about 7 or 8 euros!
Pedro LOVES Coca Cola! He also enjoys pizza! He's only allowed a few tasted though! The two little girls on the next table thought Christmas had come watching his antics!
And we musn't forget the cutest little dog!
This evening, on the way to Assisi Ilana is going to get us into the park for a quick trip round on the train. Can't wait!
